Got a ticket or a summons and doesn't know what to do
Use when someone got a traffic ticket, a citation, a criminal summons, or a jury summons and doesn't know what it means, where to go, or what happens if they don't respond.
In danger right now: call 911. Crisis or thoughts of suicide: call or text 988. Not sure where to start? Call the Silver City Gospel Mission: 575-388-5071. Police, fire or sheriff, not an emergency: 575-388-8840 (Central Dispatch). Print our list of phone numbers →
These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Read the paper together
You can ask"Can I look at the paper with you?"
Find who sent it (police, a court, or the jury office), the court name, the date, and what it asks them to do.
You can say"Don't throw it away and don't ignore it. Missing a court date can lead to a warrant."
2Traffic tickets and citations
Many traffic tickets let a person either pay the fine by mail or go to court.
Grant County Magistrate Court - Division I (Silver City)
At the Gospel MissionThe Mission's free mail service helps them get court letters. Sign up at the front desk.
