These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Explain how the waitlists work
You can say"Low-rent housing has waitlists. The sooner you sign up, the sooner your name comes up. Let's get you on as many lists as we can."
Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher) helps pay rent at a private place. Public housing is an apartment owned by the housing authority.
Rent is usually about 30% of the family's income.
2Apply at Western Regional Housing Authority
WRHA runs both Section 8 and public housing for Grant County. The office is at 2545 N. Silver St.
