These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Stay safe, and be kind
Only stop where it is safe and legal. Never stop in a traffic lane or step into the road.
You can say"Hi, I'm ___. How are you doing today?"
If the person looks sick, hurt, very confused, or in danger (heat, cold, a medical problem): call 911.
911 (Grant County Regional Dispatch)
Emergency: police, fire, ambulance

2Ask what would help
You can ask"Have you eaten today? Do you have a place to stay tonight?"
Whether you give money is your choice. Many people give food, water, socks or a gift card instead, or tell the person where help is.
Bring
- Bottled water
- a snack
- clean socks
- a card with the Mission's address and phone (575-388-5071)
