These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.

1Check what they have first

You can say"A new Social Security card is free."
You can ask"Do you have a New Mexico ID or driver's license right now?"
You can ask"Has your name changed since you got your card?"

2Order online if they can

This works for US citizens age 18 or older who have a NM license or state ID, with no name or birth date changes.
Go to ssa.gov/myaccount together. They make a "my Social Security" account (Login.gov or ID.me).
