Use when someone asks for prayer, a Bible study, a church, or spiritual support. Always their choice, never a condition for help.
In danger right now: call 911. Crisis or thoughts of suicide: call or text 988. Not sure where to start? Call the Silver City Gospel Mission: 575-388-5071. Police, fire or sheriff, not an emergency: 575-388-8840 (Central Dispatch). Print our list of phone numbers →
These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Ask what they want
You can say"Prayer and church are always your choice. Help here never depends on it."
You can ask"What would help you most: prayer now, a Bible study, a church, or someone to talk to?"
Never pray or talk about faith during TEFAP food distribution.
2Pray with them if they ask
You can ask"Would you like me to pray with you, or would you like some quiet?"
Keep it short. Use plain words and their own needs.
