Wants to vote or register to vote without a home address
Use when someone who is homeless, staying with others, or living in a camp or car wants to register to vote, update their registration, or find out where and how to vote in Grant County.
These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
Get the paper form from the County Clerk or the library. Or register online at nmvote.org with a New Mexico driver's license or state ID.
On the paper form, there is a part for people with no street address. Draw a simple map of where they sleep, with nearby streets or landmarks. This puts them in the right voting area.
They also need a mailing address.
At the Gospel MissionThe Mission's free mail service can be their mailing address: Their Name, c/o Silver City Gospel Mission, 111 S. Texas St., Silver City, NM 88061.
Write the last 4 numbers of their Social Security number, or their NM ID number, on the form. This may save showing ID later.
Turn the form in to the County Clerk or mail it.
Grant County Clerk's Office
County Clerk (recording, marriage licenses, elections, voter registration)
Regular registration ends 28 days before an election.
After that, they can still register and vote the same day in person during early voting or on Election Day for statewide elections.
Bring
For same-day registration, a photo ID from the government, a tribe or a school
If the ID shows a different address, they also need proof of where they live dated in the last 90 days, like a bank statement, government check or paycheck.
