These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Yes, they can vote
You can say"You do not need a home address to vote in New Mexico."
Who can vote: US citizens, 18 or older on Election Day, who live in New Mexico.
People with a felony can register and vote once they are out of prison or jail, even on probation or parole.
You can say"Who you vote for is your choice. We will not ask."
2Fill out the registration form
Get the paper form from the County Clerk or the library. Or register online at nmvote.org with a New Mexico driver's license or state ID.
On the paper form, there is a part for people with no street address. Draw a simple map of where they sleep, with nearby streets or landmarks. This puts them in the right voting area.
They also need a mailing address.
At the Gospel MissionThe Mission's free mail service can be their mailing address: Their Name, c/o Silver City Gospel Mission, 111 S. Texas St., Silver City, NM 88061.
Write the last 4 numbers of their Social Security number, or their NM ID number, on the form. This may save showing ID later.
Turn the form in to the County Clerk or mail it.
