Needs an interpreter, or forms in Spanish or another language
Use when someone speaks Spanish or another language (or uses sign language) and needs a free interpreter or forms in their language at Income Support, Social Security, a hospital, court or MVD. Not about immigration status.
These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
Federal law says offices and clinics that get federal money must give free language help. This includes Income Support (SNAP and Medicaid), Social Security, hospitals and clinics.
They can ask for an interpreter in person or by phone. They do not have to pay, and they should not have to wait for days.
You can say"Necesito un intérprete en español, por favor." (I need a Spanish interpreter, please.)
