Getting to food pantries, shelters and free meals: bus, rides and walking
Use when someone needs to get to a food pantry, free meal or shelter without a car: the free Silver City bus, walking times from the Mission, buses to Bayard and Santa Clara, and other rides.
These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
The Silver City bus (Corre Caminos) is free and runs Monday to Friday only, about 7:35am to 4:30pm. There are no buses on weekends or holidays, so plan to walk on Saturdays and Sundays.
Most places below are a 10 to 20 minute walk from the Silver City Gospel Mission at 111 S. Texas St. Each walk below has a button that opens a map with the route drawn on it in a new tab. Print the map from there.

The Silver Route bus loops around Silver City once an hour. It goes one way only, in a big circle.
The bus stops at Spring St. and Texas St., at the Mission's corner, at about 7:57, 8:57, 9:57, 10:57, 11:57, 12:57, 1:57, 2:57 and 3:57.
From the Mission's stop the bus goes north: Bullard and 7th (3 minutes later), College and Pope by HMS (4 minutes), WNMU (6 minutes), Food Basket on 13th St. near The Commons (14 minutes), Walmart (28 minutes), then around to Gila Regional and back.
Tap the map and schedule below to see every stop and time. The fares printed on the old map no longer apply: the bus is free now.
🚶 Silver City Senior Center, 205 W. Victoria St. (lunch for 60+): about 15 minutes, uphill from the Mission. If the hill is hard, the bus may be easier and faster: the closest stops are Chevron on Hwy 90 and La Capilla (Victoria and Hwy 90 is a call-ahead stop).
To The Commons pantry (Tue-Thu 11am-3pm): get on at Spring and Texas at :57, get off at Food Basket on 13th St. about 14 minutes later, then walk 2 or 3 minutes.
To the OASIS or SPIN: get on at :57 and get off at Bullard and 7th at the top of the hour. The OASIS is right there. SPIN is about a 10 minute walk east on 7th St.
The Copper Route bus goes from the bus terminal and Walmart to Arenas Valley, Santa Clara, Bayard and Hurley, Monday to Friday. It does not come downtown, so change buses at the terminal.
Example trip to Bayard: Silver Route from Spring and Texas at 8:57, arrive at the terminal about 9:30, Copper Route leaves 9:55, arrive at Bayard City Hall about 10:32. Back: Bayard City Hall 12:59, terminal 1:30, Silver Route 1:35, Spring and Texas 1:57.
Example trip to the Santa Clara Senior Center: Spring and Texas 8:57, Copper Route 9:55, Santa Clara City Hall about 10:19. Back: City Hall 11:12 or 1:12.
