These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1If a seizure is happening now
Use the guide "Someone is having a seizure". Call 911 if it lasts more than 5 minutes or they don't wake up.
2Talk with them
You can ask"Do you have epilepsy, or are the seizures new? Do you have medicine? Are you taking it every day?"
You can ask"Do you drink? Did you stop drinking or using pills all of a sudden?"
Seizures from stopping alcohol or pills can kill. They need a doctor today. See the guide "Wants to stop drinking".
You can say"Many people with seizures live full lives. The key is a doctor and taking medicine every day."
