These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Start with respect and safety
You can ask"What name and pronouns would you like me to use?"
Use them every time, and in the person's record.
You can ask"Are you safe right now? Is anyone hurting or threatening you?"
If they are hurt, in danger, or talking about suicide, call 911 or 988 now.
