These are the same steps our staff use when they help someone. "They" means the person who needs help: you, or someone you are helping. Go in order, and call ahead when you can.
1Check for an emergency first
Can't speak in full sentences, lips blue or gray, or the inhaler isn't helping? Call 911 now.
911 (Grant County Regional Dispatch)
Emergency: police, fire, ambulance
911
Silver City · 24/7
2Ask about their asthma
You can ask"Do you have a rescue inhaler with you? When did you last use it?"
You can ask"How many times a week do you need it? Do you wake up at night coughing or short of breath?"
You can ask"Do you have Medicaid, Medicare, other insurance, or none?"
3Get a doctor and an asthma plan
A regular doctor can check their lungs, write an asthma action plan and add a daily controller inhaler if needed.
